Scaravelli Hatha Yoga Instructor @ Maitri Yoga
Penelope offers yoga classes and one to one sessions for all in Brighton and the Sussex area. She believes that yoga is a system which can offer freedom and peace through learning to understand our own bodies and what we hold within them.
Penny's personal practice and teaching are under a strong influence of the discoveries of Vanda Scaravelli, an Italiant student of B. K. S. Iyengar. Scaravelli-inspired hatha yoga is a process of discovery of the body and its relationship to gravity which very much focuses on undoing the work of habitual external muscles and awakening internal muscles to liberate the spine. This process brings freedom, fun and release to the whole body, working in contradiction to any 'no pain no gain' concepts.
'Elongation and extension can
only occur when the pushing and the pulling stop'
- Vanda Scaravelli
Penelope qualified in 2008 with the Unity School of Yoga and Massage (IYN 200hrs) and has since trained with Calm for Kids in 2009. She now has the privilege of working with a wide range of children, teenagers and special needs adults.
‘The postures and practices of yoga are not beyond anyone as they are inside everyone’ Penelope Zikic
Penelope’s classes offer a friendly and patient environment for self-discovery with adherence to the natural laws of the breath, gravity and the spine. The Unity training has enhanced the spiritual outlook of her work, incorporating the explorations of contemporary body workers with the profundities of the ancient yoga scriptures.
